Branca raced internationally for just a couple of seasons, usually at events in his native Switzerland, but sometimes further afield. The Formula 1 events were contested with a Maserati 4CLT and Formula 2 races with a Type 15 Gordini.

Only occasionally did he mix it with the quick men - a front row start at Geneva in 1950 saw him lead briefly - but he did get the occasional top-six finish in lesser races: third at Aix-les-Bains, fifth at Erlen in 1950, and another fifth at Naples in '51 with the Gordini. His best finish with the Maserati was sixth in the 1951 Pescara GP.

Thereafter, Toni continued to compete, usually in hill-climbs, through to the mid-fifties with his Maser and later a Moretti.
